A motorist travelling southwards on the N1 highway escaped serious injury after a stone was hurled at the car’s windshield by an unknown assailant.
According to provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, the motorist was given a rude awakening on Wednesday, 2 August, as the stone smashed head on into the windshield.
“A motorist was assailed in the early early hours of the day, on the N1 just past the Middlefontein off-ramp. A stone went through the vehicle’s windscreen but fortunately no injuries were reported,” Mojapelo said.
Acording to Mojapelo, the motorist saw a stationary vehicle from which the stone was allegedly thrown.
The motorist has since refused to open a case.
The Modimolle Community Policing Forum has raised concern over the incident, and has warned motorists to be vigiulant when travelling past the offramp, which is the same spot where a truck overturned following a burst tyre.
One person died while two others were rushed to hospital following the latter accident.
This particular accident resulted in traffic jams throughout the Waterberg district.
The towns of Modimolle, Mookgophong and Bela-Bela were badly affected by traffic jams, and worse still, at the end of the month.
