Pretoria-based comedian Senzeni, whose real name is Happy Khoba, popularly known for his roles in the Crazy Entertainers films, had the locals eating out of his palm last Thursday 22 October at Modimolle Square Club.

The people of Modimolle were left begging for more, after Senzeni gave them a first-rate stand-up comedy performance.

Local entertainers, Midos and the 4dallas also captivated the audience with their own style of comedy which comprises of music, dance and drama.

Tickets to this comedy night were sold before the main event, while others paid for entry at the door.

Although the turnout was not that huge, Senzeni was still optimistic that future events will attract many people.

From time to time Senzeni sent out significant messages to discourage the use of drugs through his jokes.

After the show Senzeni told The Beat that he was impressed with the talent showcased by local comedians, and further showed interest in working with them in the future.

He was also happy with the warm welcome he received from the locals during his performance.

Senzeni encouraged young people to focus on their studies and to also stay away from alcohol and sexual activities until such time that they are responsible enough to make the right choices.

Modimolle born and bred artist Esrom Nkwinika who was part of the event organisers, said the purpose of the event was to encourage people to support local talent.

He said in order for young people to succeed, families must support their dreams so that they can come true.

Nkwinika said without the support of parents and other members of the family, young people will not be able to succeed in whatever that they are trying to achieve. He called on all locals to support events like this one, as it gives them a chance to rub shoulders and draw inspiration from those who have already succeeded.

Innocentia Rabalao, who hails from Mokopane, said she was invited to the comedy night by a friend.

She said the show was interesting and she was intrigued by both the performances of Senzeni and the local comedians.

She however urged the organisers to go beyond the area of Modimolle when they publicise their next event.

Rabalao believes local talent needs to be exposed to the masses beyond the Waterberg region.
