A man who has been charged with allegedly murdering his brother-in-law has been remanded in custody.

Bela-Bela’s Sammy Photoane, in his mid-forties, remained in custody and was expected to appear before the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 24 April.

He first appeared in court on Monday 16 Monday.

Photoane was expected to appear again in the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court on the main charge of alleged murder, and possibly for a formal bail application.

Bela-Bela head of detectives, Lieutenant-Colonel Abel Phetla, said the charges were a sequel to an alleged fist fight which took place in the early hours of Sunday 15 April.

The unnamed victim was Photoane’s brother-in-law, who allegedly fell unconscious following the alleged fist fight.

The incident occurred on the farmlands of Noodhulp on the southern fringes of downtown Bela-Bela.

According to Phetla, when the victim fell unconscious, Photoane personally alerted the police about the tragedy.

On arrival emergency services personnel declared the victim dead at the scene.
